Equality On All Fronts?

There has been much publicity in the media lately about the debate of whether to legally permit same sex couples to marry in Scotland.

On one view the issue has much more to do with moral rights/beliefs than the law. That is perhaps illustrated by the number of strong statements made on behalf of religious organisations. At present gay couples can enter into civil partnership which gives them the same legal rights between each other as married couples, but many feel they should be entitled to marry in the same way as opposite sex couples.

The one matter that has been omitted from the debate, it is suggested, is whether couples of different sex should be entitled to enter into civil partnerships in the same way as same sex couples can. Surely to provide for complete equality that should be considered also?

Whether couples enter into marriage or civil partnership they can take steps to protect their assets in the event of a future separation. They can enter into pre-nuptial or pre civil partnership Agreements with that in mind.

If you wish to discuss the possibility of putting an Agreement in place in advance of entering into a civil partnership or a marriage please contact one of the members of our team who would be happy to assist.
