Structure of Traineeship

The Simpson & Marwick traineeship allows you to obtain a unique insight into the legal practice of litigation.

Over the course of your two year traineeship you will be placed in four different seats, all of which will be litigation-based and partner-led. The focus of work in each team will vary from professional indemnity to personal injury and commercial to local authority.

Following an initial two day induction you will be assigned to your partner-led team for the start of your traineeship. From the outset you will be called upon to make appearances in the Small Claims/Summary Cause courts. These appearances may seem daunting at first but this opportunity gives you an invaluable experience to develop not only your advocacy skills but also your confidence in undertaking court appearances and understanding court procedures.

In addition to regular court appearances, your traineeship will involve aspects of managing your own case load, including undertaking legal drafting and research tasks, interviewing witnesses, attending site visits, organising medical examinations, instructing advocates, and negotiating settlements. In essence, you will be an integral part of our litigation team.
