Simpson & Marwick have contributed to the community for over
a hundred years, as an employer, a neighbour, a local purchaser of
supplies and as a sponsor of charitable and community causes.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee was formed
five years ago and allows all staff in the firm to be involved in
decisions relating to charitable giving, environmental issues and
staff health and wellbeing.
Cancer Research UK is a cancer research and awareness charity in
the United Kingdom, Its aim is to reduce the number of deaths from
cancer. As the world's largest independent cancer research charity
it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment
of the disease. Research activities are carried out in institutes,
universities and hospitals across the UK, both by the charity's own
employees and by its grant-funded researchers. It also provides
information about cancer and runs campaigns aimed at raising
awareness of the disease and influencing public policy.
Cancer Research UK's work is almost entirely funded by the
public. It raises money through donations, legacies, community
fundraising, events, retail and corporate partnerships. Over 40,000
people are regular volunteers.
Raising awareness.
We raise awareness of charitable efforts. Our CSR Committee also
try to make it easy for people to help. Combined, we seek to create
a ripple effect, where small contributions of money and time become
ever larger.
We democratically choose a charity of the year, which provides a
focal point for our fundraising efforts and events.
Raising money.
We support a Give As You Earn scheme through our payroll,
whereby all employees' charitable donations are both
tax free and matched by the firm £ for £. Our charitable
special events are complimented by regular charity days, for
example, dress down Fridays and home bake sales.
Raising the barriers.
We try to help our staff with the challenges of everyday life.
Our payroll benefits include childcare vouchers and interest free
transport loans. We arrange flu vaccinations for staff and organise
and support a regular blood donation scheme.
Reducing our carbs.
We want to reduce our carbon footprint.
- Our offices are designed and operated to be energy efficient.
We monitor energy usage and audits are conducted.
- All paper, glass, aluminum, cardboard and toner cartridges are
recycled.
- We use video-link technology wherever possible to conduct
remote meetings.
- We source our supplies locally to both support the communities
in which we do business and to reduce environmental impact.
