Cheers For Us, Cash For CHAS
Simpson & Marwick celebrates its 125th anniversary this
year, and we decided that a very constructive way to mark the
occasion would be to support a Scottish charity. We chose CHAS -
the Children's Hospice Association Scotland - who provide, among
other things, Scotland's only hospice service for seriously ill
young people. We have been working with them throughout our
anniversary year, donating our time and raising money through
events such as a 125-mile sponsored walk and raffles at our client
conferences. Our 125th birthday party at Glasgow's Radisson Blu
hotel clearly presented a perfect opportunity, and sure enough the
raffle raised nearly £1,000, with prizes ranging from a round of
golf and lunch at St Andrews to a dare-to-be-different Segway
Experience at Crieff Hydro.

Smash hit
Our Liability Conference at Radisson Blu, Glasgow on 2 June was
an outstanding success. Around 150 delegates enjoyed presentations
on topical issues, including a fascinating examination of 'Costs
post- Gill/Jackson' by guest speaker Sheriff Principal Taylor.
We're far too modest to continue praising the event, so we'll let
our guests do it for us. Their comments included: "Excellent and
informative event... slick, typical Simpson & Marwick, with
benefit of 125 years' experience... good mix of presentations
pitched at the right level... as always, a useful and interesting
review and update of recent relevant developments in a variety of
areas." Thanks to everyone who attended.
Coming soon...
Our next Employment Law Seminar will take place on the evening
of Thursday 30 June at the Apex City Quay Hotel, Dundee. The
speaker line-up is impressive. Chaired by Harry Boyle, the Managing
Partner of our Dundee office, the event will include presentations
from employment specialists David Hughes, Sandy Kemp and Deborah
Inglis. The event is free, and refreshments will be provided. The
RTA Lawbites will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 7 July at
the Apex Hotel, Seething Lane, London. A heavyweight speaker
line-up will share their insights into issues facing Insurers and
their legal advisors when dealing with RTA claims arising in
Scotland. The event will also include opportunities for discussion.
