A high value litigator, predominantly handling off-shore
employer's liability, local authority and police
actions.
Ishbel has extensive experience of defender litigation. She was
instrumental in the development and expansion of the firm's
business in the North East, moving from Partner to Consultant in
2007 to achieve a better work life balance. Her clients include the
off-shore industry, local authorities and the police, who instruct
her both directly and through insurers. Her caseload covers an
exciting variety of liability claims from alleged bullying and
missed dyslexia to injuries whilst on police duty or off-shore.
Originally from Stornoway, Ishbel loves Islands both at home and
abroad. She enjoys fishing from her father's clinker-built wooden
rowing boat.
Career
Qualified 1991, joined Simpson & Marwick 1994. Assumed
Partner 1998, Consultant from 2007.
Ishbel is a member of The Law Society of Scotland.
Notable work includes:
Brian Grant v Grampian Police (2001). Ishbel
successfully defended this employer's liability action arising from
an injury sustained by an officer in training using a new type of
police baton. With damages assessed at just under 1 million,
it was a significant outcome to avoid liability both in terms of
this and potential future cases.
