A part-time Sheriff, with a focus on medical defence.

Mike has extensive experience of defender representation, having specialised in this field for some 30 years. His practice focus is on medical defence, where he applies his considerable knowledge to the benefit of his doctor clients at proceedings before the General Medical Council and at Fatal Accident Inquiries. Mike's expertise extends to occupational disease and personal injury claims, and he has long experience of defending asbestos claims on behalf of local authority, shipbuilders and construction clients. Mike has been a part-time Sheriff since 2006.

Mike finds inspiration in Abraham Lincoln for his superb use of language - for example in his Gettysburg and second inaugural addresses. He enjoys ski-ing in Colorado, and golf and curling in Scotland.

Michael is a part-time Sheriff and is a member of The Law Society of Scotland. He held the office of Finance Partner, Simpson & Marwick, for 17 years.

Notable work includes:

Lockerbie fatal accident inquiry, for PanAm; Dunblane fatal accident inquiry, for Central Regional Council. Mike also acted for Strathclyde Regional Council in the litigation concerning the addition of fluoride to the public water supply.
