Peter is an authority in Scotland in the litigation sector. He
applies his expertise representing clients across a wide range of
actions including professional negligence, personal injury,
commercial litigation, aviation and major accidents. Peter is a
solicitor advocate, being one of the first in Scotland to qualify
for extended rights of audience in the Supreme Court. An industry
leader, his various appointments include acting as panel solicitor
for the Law Society of Scotland's solicitors' professional
negligence master policy, as legal advisor to the Royal
Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and acting as a part-time
sheriff. Peter is one of the few lawyers to be highly rated in
Chambers Legal Guide in three categories - professional negligence,
dispute resolution and personal injury defendant. He is also
considered by clients and peers to be the foremost aviation lawyer
in Scotland.
Out of the office, Peter enjoys classical music and golf.
Career
Qualified 1976, joined Simpson & Marwick 1977, assumed
Partner 1980.
Part-time Sheriff since 2003. Solicitor Advocate. Panel
Solicitor to the Law Society of Scotland solicitors' professional
negligence policy. A Chairman of The Discipline Tribunal of The
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. A member of the
Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel, International
Association of Defence Counsel, International Bar Association and
the Law Society of Scotland.
Pam Am/Lockerbie (1988 onward). Peter
represented Pan Am at the Fatal Accident Inquiry and all subsequent
civil litigation arising from the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 which
continued for many years.
