What We Do

Who do we act for?

  • The Advocacy Unit is central to Simpson & Marwick's dispute resolution practice.  The Unit allows a seamless service between solicitor and advocate, producing better results for our clients, saving them money and often valuable time.
  • Our team are able to accept instructions from other solicitors, both for written Opinions and appearance work.  You can instruct one of our solicitor-advocates direct without the need to instruct (and pay for) a separate Edinburgh agent.  We have solicitor-advocates available in each of our offices - giving your client the benefit of having someone who can appear on their behalf, but who is also local to them for consultations and preparation.

Where do we appear?

  • In court, our team are able to provide representation at all levels , from your local Sheriff Court to the Court of Session, the High Court of Justiciary, the Supreme Court and the European Court of Justice.
  • In employment matters we appear in employment tribunal hearings and employment appeal tribunals throughout the United Kingdom.
  • We are also able to assist with alternative dispute resolution and are well versed in appearing on behalf of clients at arbitrations, adjudications and mediations.
  •

What do we do?

  • Our solicitor advocates have a breadth of knowledge and experience in relation to all types of actions.
  • With particular skill and experienced in commercial court advocacy, our team are comfortable with the demanding judicial scrutiny of the commercial court, regularly appearing for case management hearings, debates and trials.
  • A number of our solicitor advocates specialise in employment matters, appearing regularly in employment tribunal hearings and employment appeal tribunals throughout the UK.  We have also had a number of successes in appeals to the Supreme Court, most recently in the case Russell and others v Transocean International Resources Limited and others.
