The Family Law (Scotland) Act 2006 confers a
range of rights and obligations on unmarried couples residing
together, including those of the same sex who have not entered into
a Civil Partnership.
In the event of the breakdown of a
relationship between a cohabiting couple certain financial claims
can now be made depending upon the circumstances.
In the event of the death of one of the couple
the other can make a claim in respect of their deceased partner's
estate.
This area of law is very new and as such it is
potentially complex. We are well placed to provide advice of the
highest quality to our clients.
